How to Utilize Your Biometric Passport with CodeB Apps

< 1 min read

To effectively use your Biometric Passport via CodeB Apps, you’ll need your 6-digit Card Access Number (CAN), typically found printed on the passport card or the next page. With this number, CodeB Apps utilize Near Field Communication (NFC) to establish a secure connection to your passport. This enables you to access various personal details such as your passport photo, date of birth, and the passport’s expiry date.

This functionality is particularly beneficial for remote validation of your passport, aiding in processes like remote Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures. It’s important to remember, however, that Biometric Passports don’t support signature or authentication applets, so they can’t be used for digitally signing documents.

To try this out, simply install the CodeB Authenticator from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.codeb.authenticator. In the CodeB menu, select the “Card Reader” option, enter your CAN, and place your mobile device on the passport. Wait for the right haptic feedback, then keep the device in place until the green progress bar at the top completes. Afterward, you will see your name, document number, and passport image displayed on your screen.
