Step-by-step guide to qualified signing with the Maltese Identity Card #
Preparation #
To digitally sign a PDF document, you need the CodeB Authenticator, which you can download to your smartphone. This serves as an interface between your Maltese Identity Card and the signing process.
Installing CodeB Authenticator #
- Visit the Google Play Store and search for CodeB Authenticator or follow this link directly: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.codeb.authenticator
- Install the app on your smartphone
Signing process #
Upload document #
- Open https://nfcsign.com/pdfedit in your web browser and upload the PDF document to be signed from your PC.
Determine the visual appearance of the signature #
- To the right of the uploaded document, you will find 5 icons. Click on the bottom icon to determine the visual appearance of your signature. This step only needs to be performed once, as the setting is saved in the browser.
Choose the position of the signature #
- Draw a box on the document where you want your signature to appear. Then click on the second icon (which looks like a stamp) to set the position.
Start the signing process #
- Now press the first icon, fill in the required fields, and click OK. Make sure to check the “Require NFC Card Signature” box if you want the signature to be made exclusively with the card. Without this option, you can also use a software certificate for signing.
Scan QR code #
- After confirming the settings, a QR code will be displayed. Open the CodeB Authenticator on your smartphone and scan the QR code. The scan button is located at the bottom center of the app. Follow the instructions in the app to complete the signing process.
Completion #
After successfully completing all the steps, you will receive your signed document by email. The qualified electronic signature with your Maltese Identity Card offers a secure and recognized method to digitally sign documents.
This guide is designed to simplify the process for you and enables you to sign documents efficiently and legally.
